What Tennessee Drivers Need to Know About New State Insurance Laws
Effective July 1st, 2015, uninsured drivers in Tennessee caught driving without the proper insurance will face an increased fine, up from $100 to now $300. Following January 1, 2016, law enforcement agents can have your car towed immediately if you don’t have proof of insurance. Before January 1, 2017, Tennessee will implement an online program to verify drivers’ insurance that tracks down drivers without insurance through their vehicle registrations. Vehicles identified as having uninsured owners will not be eligible for registration renewal.
